Rob Plant is Head of Real Estate Finance at Ronald Fletcher Baker LLP, based in the firm’s London office. With over 20 years’ post-qualification experience, Rob acts for specialist lenders, private banks, challenger banks, and borrowers across the full spectrum of secured real estate lending; from short-term bridging and auction finance through to development finance, term loans, and high-value investment property loans and refinancing transactions for high-net-worth clients and experienced property professionals.
Rob’s practice is grounded in a thorough command of every stage of the lending lifecycle. For lenders, this means rigorous security due diligence, clear, actionable title reports, and legally sound completions delivered within the demanding timelines that the specialist finance market requires. For borrowers, it means straightforward, accessible advice that explains the real obligations they are taking on with advice that is technically precise without being inaccessible. Rob has extensive experience in dual-representation matters, advising both lender and borrower within the same transaction, and regularly provides independent legal advice to borrowers, guarantors, and directors on unregulated bridging facilities, personal guarantees, and debentures.
A defining feature of Rob’s approach is his commitment to clear, proactive communication across all three parties to a specialist finance transaction: lender, borrower, and broker. He understands that in a market where deals move quickly and instructions depend on relationships, a solicitor who is difficult to reach or slow to update can unwind a transaction that everyone else has worked hard to put together. Rob treats communication with brokers as seriously as he treats the legal work itself, keeping introducers informed and in control, so they can manage their client relationships with confidence. This three-way communication discipline is, in his view, not a soft skill but a core part of what separates a good specialist finance solicitor from a great one.
Rob also brings a genuine and active interest in the role that technology can play in transforming legal practice in specialist finance. He has researched the emerging landscape of AI-powered legal tools in depth and has been engaged in developing automation tooling specific to the bridging and real estate finance sector. An area where commercially available solutions remain limited and where bespoke approaches to document analysis, precedent generation, and transaction management can deliver real efficiency gains for lenders. He takes the view that the specialist finance solicitor of the future will use technology not to cut corners but to spend more time on the work that genuinely requires legal judgment, relationships and communication; and less on process and administration. He is committed to building that capability at Ronald Fletcher Baker.
Rob joined Ronald Fletcher Baker from a senior equity partner position with over two decades of lending market experience behind him. He is known as an adviser who finds ways to make transactions work by identifying issues early, proposing solutions before they become problems, and keeping all parties aligned so that deals proceed to completion with the minimum of friction and delay
Outside of work, Rob is a dedicated strength and conditioning enthusiast, which is a discipline that demands the same consistency and attention to the fundamentals that he brings to his practice’ Rob is also an avid traveller with a longstanding appetite for exploring new destinations worldwide.
