Shiv Raja is an employment lawyer and is based in the firm’s Old Street office. Shiv advises clients on a wide-range of employment matters, both contentious and non-contentious. This includes day-to-day HR advice, disciplinary and grievance matters, redundancy, TUPE transfers and negotiating settlement agreements. Shiv acts for both employers and employees and works across all business sectors.
On the employer-side, Shiv has had experience of drafting and reviewing contracts of employment for junior and senior employees, drafting restrictive covenants and advising clients on the enforceability of restrictive covenants. He has also provided clients with advice on the employment-related matters of corporate acquisitions and has advised on individual and collective redundancy and TUPE. In addition to this, Shiv has experience of drafting settlement agreements for clients on a variety of matters and advises on how to minimise risk when dismissing employees. Shiv has guided employers on all aspects of the performance management of employees and can provide advice on how to manage a grievance and disciplinary process.
Shiv can provide advice on how to defend against a variety of different claims in the Employment Tribunal, such as unfair dismissal, wrongful dismissal, discrimination and whistleblowing. Shiv has had experience of advising a wide-range of clients, from owner-managed businesses to large, multi-national organisations with operations in multiple jurisdictions. He has had previous experience of managing international employment law matters, such as cross-border redundancy exercises. Shiv prides himself on taking a commercial approach to advising clients on employment matters.
On the employee-side, Shiv can provide advice to both individual employees and senior executives on all aspects of their employment, from reviewing their terms and conditions of employment to providing advice in relation to bullying at work, harassment, dismissal and settlement agreements. In addition to this, Shiv can provide clients with advice on maternity rights, shared parental leave and flexible working arrangements. Shiv is focussed on helping clients to find cost-effective solutions to legal problems and enjoys building long term relationships with clients.
Shiv studied law at the London School of Economics and completed his Legal Practice Course at the College of Law, Moorgate. Shiv is a fluent speaker of Gujarati.
